Dealing with a leak or water damage? Call or text Southern Mold — photos of the affected area help us plan the first visit.

Photos help us understand the situation and decide the appropriate next step — they are not a diagnosis or a measure of how far a problem extends.

Fast response limits the damage

Water spreads through building materials faster than most people expect — under flooring, along wall bases, into insulation and cabinet bottoms. The longer materials stay wet, the more of them have to be removed instead of dried, and the more opportunity there is for microbial growth to begin. Acting quickly is the single biggest factor you control.

What water damage restoration includes

  • Water extraction
  • Moisture detection
  • Structural drying
  • Air movers and dehumidification
  • Monitoring of affected materials
  • Mold prevention measures, and remediation when appropriate

We respond to water losses from plumbing failures, supply line breaks, water heater failures, appliance leaks from dishwashers, refrigerators and washing machines, roof and window leaks, HVAC condensate overflows, sewer and drain backups, and storm-driven water intrusion.

Extraction and structural drying

Standing water is extracted first. Then the structure itself — subfloor, framing, wall cavities, insulation — is dried with equipment placed for the specific conditions of the building. Surface-dry is not dry; materials can read wet well after a floor feels normal underfoot.

Throughout drying we take moisture readings so progress can be measured and equipment adjusted, and so there is a record of when materials reached a dry standard.

Restoration and follow-through

Once the structure is dry, the affected area can be restored. Where the water sat long enough for growth to develop, water damage work and mold remediation are handled together, so the space is not closed up over a problem.

Water damage questions

What should I do after discovering water damage?

Stop the water source if you can do it safely, stay clear of standing water near electrical equipment, move belongings out of the wet area, photograph conditions for your records, and get the structure dried as soon as possible.

How quickly can mold develop after water damage?

It depends on temperature, humidity and how long materials stay wet, but growth can begin within days on materials that remain damp. Drying quickly is the practical way to reduce that risk.

Can carpet and flooring be saved?

Sometimes. It depends on the water source, how long the material has been wet, and what is underneath it. That assessment happens during the initial evaluation.
